More GRANDERS (1000+) black marlin are caught here more than anywhere else in the world making these reefs a predominate BIG MARLIN factory & it sets the scene for one the world’s most incredible big game fisheries. Also found here are sailfish around the edges of the reef & blue marlin a little further offshore. Aside from the marlin fishing, there’s a great opportunity of luring excellent bycatch including fish species such as wahoo, yellowfin tuna, spanish mackerel & mahi-mahi.
It’s ideal in the mornings to enjoy a relaxing snorkel amongst the many fringing reefs & explore the abundant marine life in them or start the day with some sporty light tackle fishing & top up the freezers with fresh grander baits for the hot afternoon bite.
Departing & returning from Cook’s Landing Kiosk Wharf in North Queensland Cooktown, all October until late in the season. During November when the bite heads south departures are from Cairns Marlin Marina. Pickups are also available at Lizard Island.

Your Cairns giant black marlin charter may start like this...
Waking up behind the calmness of the reef & being greeted by one the 7th natural wonders of the World.....The Great Barrier Reef. You may decide to go for a relaxing snorkel through the underwater garden or pick up a fishing rod and catch more tasty table fish such as a coral trout.
Back onboard after a snorkel you will be treated to a hearty breakfast to get you ready to go tangle with some of the brutes of the reef like legendary giant trevally. Later in the day light tackle rods come out to catch fresh bait for of the day and then it’s time to go catch that fish of a lifetime......the giant black marlin (Istiompax Indica)
After the days expedition is complete, its time to go back in behind the reef for a sheltered anchorage and relax with a few cold beverages to watch GoPro videos of the day’s events.

- Sunglasses and wide brim hat protection from the sun
- Long sleeve shirt, light jumper or spray jacket
- Go Pro's and cameras for capturing the day's events
- Personal sunscreen as guests often have favourites
- Consult your chemist for any medication prior to charter (sea sickness)
- Personal toiletries and clothes in a soft bag (no big luggage bags please)
